(Added 06 February 2009) Well Cleator Moor WMC was the venue for the inaugural BDO Boys Bonanza Exhibition on the 31st January 2009. I would like to thank the club and Paul Wilson for the excellent set up, it was top notch. The players were drawn by the audience at just after eight and the match ups were as follows:
John Henderson V Darryl Fitton First on were John Henderson & Darryl Fitton. Both players received a good welcome but Darryl edged it, there were a lot of hats and sunglasses in the crowd, and he is English. This was a good match up and a lot closer than the score suggest. Big Hendo had a bit of double trouble and Darryl punished him for it. It was an excellent start to the night's entertainment.
Second on were Ross Montgomery & Brian Woods. The walk on's for this one were interesting. Ross, being Scottish, received a warmer welcome than former local hero Brian who was booed, in a friendly way, by 50% of the crowd. Again the audience were treated to an excellent match. Brian playing up to the crowds boos but in the end Ross edged it.
Last on were Mark Webster & Martin Adams. Well the last match had two former World Champions pitted against each other. Both players received a warm welcome from the crowd. Martin produced some excellent darts on the night and came out a comfortable winner.
We would like to thank all the audience participants who helped make the night so much fun, with a special mention to young Jack 'The Storm' Pollard who showed Brian how the game of darts should be played, three feet further up the oche and from a height of 3 feet. The players wish to thank everyone who came to support them, and they enjoyed the photo opportunities and autograph signing on the night. Format for the night will be 16 games of 701. For further information regarding the event please send an email to: enquiries@brianpeckerwoods.co.uk. Exhibition - The Calder Club, Whitehaven In a packed room at The Calder Club in Whitehaven, 260 people waited for the darts to start. The dart players were warming up in the other room and present for the night was Brian Woods, Gary Spedding, Eric Bristow, Keith Deller, Alan Warriner and Peter Manley. The format for the night was some audience participation with three head to heads as follows:
Pecker v Gary Spedding In addition, the two winning players with the highest averages go head to head in the final. First out was local lad Gary Spedding to play two games against members of the audience, drawn by raffle, whom he quickly despatched. Next out was another local lad and our man Pecker. Again, he was sporting another masterpiece in 'new' hairstyles. The raffle was drawn and out of the audience came Brenda, Brian's sister, and with his usual brotherly love, proceeded to trounce her. The next victim was despatched without to much difficulty also. The first of the main events of the night was a 'local' affair with Pecker up against Gary Spedding for a best of nine. The first two legs went against the darts and the Pecker won the next two, to take a 3-1 lead. Gary pulled the match level by taking the next two legs. The next two legs went with the darts and it was down to the final leg and the bull off. Pecker won the bull off and the final game with a single dart average of 28.05. Next out was Keith Deller followed by Eric Bristow, both despatching there opponents. Then came a special match with Eric playing young Cumbrian darts player Andrew Foster. Both started well but Andrew then hit 128, 128 and 180 leaving 64 and Eric trailing after his throw with 294. Andrew finished impressively with treble 16 double 8 to beat Eric and send the crowd wild. Keith then went on to beat Eric and Peter beat Alan. The final was set, One dart v Pecker, best of nine. To be honest I think the beer had taken its toll on Pecker by 23:30 and Peter won the final 5 - 2, but it was an entertaining finale to a superb night of darts. The BDO International Open - BreanSands Brian is playing in the BDO International Open at BreanSands this weekend. In the mixed triples he made it through to the board final with Tricia Wright & Andrew Foster. This event is being televised on Setanta, so hopefully we will see Brian play. Brian and Tricia made it through to the last 8 in the mixed doubles. Brian made it through to the last 16 of the singles, just one step away from the televised stage. Exhibition - Newark, Nottinghamshire * Please note this event has unfortunately had to be cancelled *. Brian will be appearing live at the Boughton & District Social Club in Newark, Nottinghamshire on 25 July 2008 with tickets priced at £5 each. For tickets contact either the club secretary Mr Mel Oates on 01623 860769 or Mr George Barrett on 01623 836843. BDO Gold Cup Play Off Latest news is that Pecker and Steve Bonnett have beaten Gary Healey and Robert McCoubrey 4 - 2 in the BDO Gold Cup County play offs, thus qualifying for the finals at the Lakeside. Unfortunately Pecker lost in the singles at the semi-final stage. The Cumbrian entrant to the singles at the BDO Gold Cup this year will be Andrew Foster. Fundraiser - Globe Hotel, Cockermouth, Cumbrian June 7th saw Pecker perform an exhibition at the Globe Hotel Cockermouth Cumbria. The event was organised as a fundraiser with the proceeds going to aid three young Cockermouth Titan Rugby league players' dreams of a trip of a lifetime and going to Australia on a training camp. The event was well supported with 110+ tickets being sold, this helped with the tremendous atmosphere in this small but adequate function room. Pecker started the night chatting to the audience and showing off his new haircut before he started. With the draw made and the 16 victims, sorry, lucky punters now knew who was to have a game against Pecker. Music was chosen for their walk on and we were ready to go. As the 20:15 start time approached we promptly got underway at 21:00, a ploy I think, by the opponents, so Pecker would have a few more beers, and indeed he did. Making his debut on the exhibition circuit and MC for the night young Andrew '180' Foster, looking the part in a black suit and red bow tie, and I must commend his performance and his rapport with Pecker was to his credit, watch out Martin Fitzmaurice he may be after your job. The first few games were won, as expected, by Pecker until the mighty Sue stepped up to the oche. With full support from the rapturous crowd, Sue started her demolition of the mighty Mr Woods. She got to her double in an impressive 36 darts to finish with her 1st dart in double 1 and the crowd went berserk. Pecker regained some face winning the next couple of games up to the interval. During the interval, the event organiser drew the raffle and had an auction, which contributed well to the final amount raised. Back to the darts and Pecker handicapped himself by either throwing the darts backwards or on his knees. Then came Tina. She swaggered up to the oche with confidence and showed Pecker how darts should be thrown, at the MC and the scorer. But when she got down to it she was brilliant. Tina got to her double in an impressive 27 darts to finish comfortably on double 5 with her 4th attempt. The event was well supported and everyone really enjoyed themselves said event organiser Karen Henson, thanking everyone for helping to raise a total of £1200 for the trip to Australia. Welsh Open - Prestatyn Pecker is playing in the Welsh Open at Prestatyn this weekend. In the last 64 he beat Alan Kerr 3 - 0 but unfortunately lost 1 - 3 to Robbie Green in the last 32. Exhibition - Whitehaven Brian will be appearing live at The Calder Club in Whitehaven on Saturday 21 June 2008 with tickets priced at £10 each. This event will be an exhibition match with Peter Manley, Eric Bristow, Keith Deller, Alan Warriner and Gary Spedding also appearing. Fundraiser - Cockermouth Brian will be appearing live at The Globe Hotel in Cockermouth on Saturday 7 June 2008 with tickets priced at £10 each. This event is being organised in aid of the Cockermouth Titans ARL players for their Cumbria Tour of Australia. The night will comprise of a raffle, auction, buffet and a lottery for 16 lucky darts players to take on Brian in a game of 701. The price to enter the lottery is £5. 2008 Mayday Darts Festival - Hemsby Brian played well this weekend to become 2008 May Day Darts Festival singles champion, mixed doubles champions with Trisha Wright and narrowly missing out in the mixed triples final at Pontins Hemsby. Brian drew Andrew '180' Foster in the last eight with the 'Boy Wonder' unlucky in the third leg missing double 18 for an out shot of 153 and a 12-dart leg. Brian eventually won this match 3-1 The semi-final draw and on the stage was Pecker against Nigel Haydon, again an exiting match with Pecker taking out 155, finishing on the bull for a 12-dart leg. Brian eventually won this match 3-1. The final was a tough one against Scott Mitchell who is currently ranked 30th in the BDO rankings. This was a well-contested final that could have gone either way but fortunately for Pecker it went his way. Brian took an early lead but went 1-2 down when Scott hit a 161 finish in a 12-dart leg only to lose the next. With the score level Pecker won the bull off when Scott failed to hit either bulls and Pecker hit the bull. The match was still in the balance until Pecker took out 104 with double 16 to win the 2008 May Day Darts Festival at Hemsby at the 6th attempt after narrowly losing out to Shaun Greatbatch in his last final appearance. Pecker's Perfect Pitch In the sixth heat at Whitehaven's Castle Inn, Brian Pecker Woods hit a perfect nine-dart 501 with a brace of 180s followed by a 141 finish (treble 20, treble 19, double 12) - it certainly does not get better than that. Pecker was playing against Joe Batty at the time and it would seem that Joe was there to bring out the very best in his opponents. When Garry Bellard beat Joe in the other half he did so with the help of a 135 out shot. Pecker and Garry played each other in the two half finals with Garry winning one and Pecker winning the other so that the heat final was effectively the best of three matches which Pecker won 3-0. He had another couple of 180s as well. |
